Questions

Good to know

What is Ask Big Sarge?

AskBigSarge is a UK police law app for your phone. Search an offence or power, or describe the job in your own words, and get the legislation, the points to prove, powers of arrest and what to do now, the way a good sergeant would explain it.

Who is it for?

Student officers, constables, special constables, PCSOs, detention and custody staff, sergeants and anyone preparing for police exams in England and Wales.

Does it work with no signal?

Yes. Every offence and power card, the PACE Codes A to I and the tools live on your phone, so they work in a basement custody suite or a rural dead zone. Only Describe the job needs a connection.

How much does it cost?

Key facts and Do now on every card, keyword search, offline use, favourites, What's changed and 3 Describe the job searches a month are free. Pro is £14.99 a year with the first month free, or £39.99 once for life. Exam prep is £39.99 per exam. No adverts, and we never take away what you've paid for.

Does it help with the sergeant's and inspector's exams?

Yes. Exam prep covers the sergeant and inspector legal exams (NPPF Step 2) and the National Investigators' Exam (NIE), with question banks, timed mock exams, flashcards and weak-area tracking.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign-up and no login. Your notes are encrypted on your phone and never leave it.

When can I get it?

The iPhone app is with Apple for review now and Android is in testing on Google Play. Email us and we will tell you the day it goes live.

How is it kept up to date?

The law is checked for changes every day against legislation.gov.uk and the PACE codes. Every card shows when it was last checked and links to its source, and new law appears in the What's changed feed before it comes into force.

Is it official police guidance?

No. Ask Big Sarge is an independent reference tool. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by any police force, the College of Policing or the Home Office. Always follow your force policy, training and legal advice.
